Advantages and disadvantages of PA6 materials

2024-10-17 09:04:22 PA6

PA6 material is polyamide 6 or nylon 6.

I. Advantages

High strength: with high tensile and compressive strength, the tensile strength is higher than that of metal, and the compression strength is comparable to that of metal, which can be used to manufacture structural components with high strength requirements, such as auto parts and mechanical parts.

Good toughness: when impacted by external force, it can absorb energy and maintain good integrity, and the impact strength is higher than that of general plastics, which is suitable for some occasions that need to bear impact loads.

Fatigue resistance: the parts can still maintain the original mechanical strength after repeated bending, and are widely used in occasions where periodic fatigue is obvious, such as escalator handrails and bicycle plastic wheels.

Good heat resistance: high softening point, maximum use temperature up to 180℃, after adding impact modifier will be reduced to 160℃, with 15%-50% glass fiber reinforced, can be increased to 199℃.

Good wear resistance: smooth surface, small friction coefficient, as an active mechanical component has self-lubrication,

low wear degree, long service life, can be used to manufacture bearing, gear and other wear-resistant parts.

Strong corrosion resistance: very alkali and most salts, but also resistant to weak acid, oil, gasoline, aromatic compounds

are inert, can be used as lubricating oil, fuel and other packaging materials.

Self-extinguishing: non-toxic, odorless, slow burning in case of fire, slow quenching after fire, dripping, foaming phenomenon,

and has good weather resistance and antibacterial, anti-mildew ability.

Excellent electrical performance: good electrical insulation, high volume resistance, high breakdown voltage, in dry or high

humidity environment have good electrical insulation, can be used for electrical equipment insulation parts.

Good molding processability: low melt viscosity, fast flow, easy to fill the mold, high freezing point after filling the mold, fast

setting, short molding cycle, high production efficiency, can be processed by injection molding, blow molding, pouring molding,

spraying, powder molding, machining, welding, bonding and other ways.

Easy to dye: can be freely colored, to meet the needs of different color products.

Ii. Disadvantages

Strong water absorption: It is one of the PA materials with the highest water absorption, and the saturated water can reach more

than 3%. Water absorption will affect the dimensional stability and electrical properties to a certain extent, especially for thin-walled

parts, and will reduce the mechanical strength of plastics.

Poor light resistance: in a long-term high-temperature environment, it will oxidize with oxygen in the air, turn brown in color, and

then break and crack, limiting its outdoor application in long-term exposure to sunlight.

Injection molding requirements are strict:

1. Sensitive to moisture: the presence of trace moisture will cause great damage to the molding quality, so the drying treatment

before processing is very important.

2. Dimensional stability control is difficult: due to thermal expansion, the dimensional stability of the product is difficult to control.

3. Stress concentration problem: the existence of sharp corners in the product will lead to stress concentration, thereby reducing

mechanical strength.

4. High wall thickness uniformity requirements: if the wall thickness is not uniform, it will lead to distortion and deformation of

the parts.

5. High precision requirements for post-processing: high precision requirements for equipment during post-processing.
